Course Outline
o You will go through creating a new project and how to navigate around the 12d Model workspace and use the menus, toolbars, and views
o You will learn how to create CAD data and discuss the picking concepts which form the foundation of working with data in 12d.
o We will also import data from external files, and then create surfaces from that data which we will use as the basis for our road design.
o Before commencing the road design portion of the course, we will look at a pad design that enables us to explore our grading, interface, and volumetric analysis capabilities, as well as focussing on streamlining the design process and automating where possible with the use of Chains.
o Then for road design, we will create reference string horizontal and vertical geometry using the IP Method, as well as introduce the Element Method with a short example, and discuss the pros and cons of each of these methods.
o Next, we will set up our typical road geometry through the use of templates and the modifiers and templates file, or MTF, then look at modifying our design using MTF modifiers to produce parking lanes, bus bays, and road crossfall modifications. we will also discuss how to design a simple T-intersection with kerb returns.
o Once we have completed our design, we will cover how to create quick plots for our Plan, Section, and Perspective views, then set up customised cross-section, a long section, and plan frame plots using a plot parameter file and multi-page plots.
o We encourage you to follow along in 12d Model and mimic what is produced, and as we step through there will be quizzes which will test your understanding of what’s being covered in the training.
Once you have completed all the lessons and quizzes successfully, you will be eligible to receive a Certificate of Completion.
